Lebanon Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plans to visit Lebanon in mid-October amid signs of local and foreign, mainly Israeli, concerns over a possible trip by the controversial leader to the volatile border area with Israel in southern Lebanon. Ahmadinejad's visit, his first to Lebanon since he assumed office in 2005, is reportedly making Israel and the UN peacekeeping force in south Lebanon known as UNIFIL jittery. As in his fiery anti-U.S. and anti-Israel speeches at the UN General Assembly which have often caused a global stir and drawn worldwide reactions, there are fears that Ahmadinejad, during a possible trip to southern Lebanon, might provoke hostile Israeli action on the tense Lebanese-Israeli border with his usually virulent rhetoric against the Jewish state.
